St Anton

13 March 2010

Brilliant sunshine today and yesterday but temperatures not getting above freezing so the snow isnt getting slushy or icy in the mornings. Lots of goggle tans around town, but the clouds are due to set in and we're expecting a fair old dump on Monday/Tuesday. Stuben yesterday was good fun and still a few (not very deep) powder turns to be had.

The odd dusting of snow hasn't done much to improve conditions, even at altitude. Nyon, Pleny and Super Morzine are all very icy and have been for a couple of weeks. Quiet slopes and tiny lift queues though. Guess you can't have everything!

Warmer weather, blue skies and the X Games in Tignes- things are looking good in Val at the moment. Snow in resort and on the pistes is very lacking though, but no snow is forecast for a while...

A light dusting of snow over night but nothing really to speak of, but it has freshened things up a little. Today has dawned a fabulous bluebird day, with warmer temperatures. Looks like the valley is covered in a mer des nuages again though, so we are in the best place!! Mont Blanc and the Aguille are looking amazingly close.

It's going to be a happy skiing day!! Enjoy

Verbier

11 March 2010

A few flakes have fallen in Verbier tonight, just a dusting I'm afraid, but all new snow is good news!

After last weeks huge dump, there is amazing conditions all over Verbier. Obviously everything is pretty tracked out off piste, but the pistes are well groomed and the snow is grippy an there are some amazing bumps around too!

Couldn't really ask for better conditions!

Cheers!

Les Arcs/La Plagne

10 March 2010

Made a flying visit to Les Arcs yesterday, ooh it wa sooo cold, hence the 'flying' bit.The view from the top of the Aguille Rouge was as stunning as ever on a beautiful clear day. The ridge run was in supurb condition and very quiet. The rest of resort seemed fairly busy tho' there appeared to be more people than. in La Plagne, generally the snow on piste was great but off piste was wind blown and somewhat 'bullet proof'!!

Today in LP has been a suprisingly ok day and not as cold as late. We are looking forward to the promised snow as we are missing the regular top ups of the fluffy white stuff!

The forecast seems to change daily and the unique weather conditions are causing a forecast problem

Piste conditons are packed powder, off piste is difficult.

The occasional dusting of new snow over the last few days. Nothing to make a massive difference. The conditions on-piste are hard and fast. Off-piste the snow is developing a typically seasonal crusty layer. Time to hit the park until it snows again!

Effing cold here today.  -20C around most of the mountain - more, by the time you take into account the windchill.  Pistes in good shape though and looking good for the Natives Big Air on Thursday.

4.5 inches overnight.  Very warm temperatures this past Thursday-Sunday cooked everything on a South/SW/SE aspect.  Those runs will be frozen, the proverbial 'dust on crust'.

Anything North facing is still great, soft & carvable.

Light snow today. The temperature has dropped way down over the last few days. The wind has also reached its highest force since the beginning of the season. A few of the lifts have been slowed down for safety reasons. Brighter outlook for tomorrow but the rest of the week is looking fairly bleak. On a brighter note, the holidays are finally over, no more queues!

Light snowfall at the moment and expected through the night, but bitterly cold. Wind in the last few days has blown a lot of snow off the pistes leaving lots of ice to navigate, but heavy snow forecast later in the week, and fingers crossed it'll be followed by some sun at last.

Its stormy and has been dumping all day, just now at 3pm the sun has come out!! Added to a few cm of top ups we had earlier in the week the riding would be epic, but mostly the lifts open today have been galzig, gampen and rendl. Theres four inches or so fallen down in resort and up on the hill a lot more. Transfer day tomorrow.

Well winter is back! It's very cold today after some spring like temperatures. We have had a glorious blue sky day spent trying to stay out of the chilly breeze but the skiing has been fantastic. Pistes are packed powder but there are some icy spots on the resort runs. Off-piste is tracked and a bit crusty!

The outlook is remaining cold with snow forecast again for sunday.

Sunshine at last!

After what feels like weeks of constant snow and greyness, and even a little rain yesterday, the sun has finally shown up this morning. The avalanche risk is still high off piste, but they are letting people back over into Auris and the conditions under the DMC and over Signal are fab.

It snowed all Thursday night and yesterday, only 8cm was forecast, but they were wrong.....more like 45 cm has fallen and this morning was amazing! After all the cloud, the sun was shining and the powder is deep! We were woken by  load bangs of avalanche control explosions and rattling windows! The avalanche risk is high, as you would expect and we saw evidence of slab avalanches on the south facing slopes. There were quite a few people sking about...and hunting for lost skis....but no lift lines. We made the most of the great conditions but unfortunately the clouds are back as I write. The forecast for the next few days is changeable and there are lots of people arriving in resort!!

Up until yesterday every day has been similar - spring conditions, lots of sunshine and soft lumpy snow on piste by the afternoon. Its been snowing today but the air is still quite warm so in town there is slush and meltwater everywhere, up on the hill its a bit sticky with a firm base between the moguls. I'm not gonna lie, i've had better days on a snowboard than today.

Snowed for most of the day yesterday, but with massive amounts of fog and a reasonable crosswind. On piste, the visibility was the worst I have experienced all season. Still plenty of snow and good visibility in the trees, if you could find them.

Conditions are ideal at the moment. Another night of decent snowfall last night. The powder in the trees is incredibly deep in places and the sun has been shining all day! Vail

22 February 2010

We drove over to Vail yesterday, there was 3 inches of fresh stuff reported - but OMG there was more than that! We were riding powder all day through endless bowls - it's HUGE.

It's actually smaller than Whistler apparently but it feels so much bigger - I have never seen anything like the amount of terrain, it was endless and although it was 'packed' yesterday this basically meant queing for a few lifts. Once we had headed over the back and you're on the runs it's still really empty. It started out quite sunny but then it clouded over and visibility was quite bad, it snowed all day, and the trip back was a bit of a mission as there was loads of snow on the road.

Going up in Breck again today, where we have had 7 inches of freshies over night. It just won't stop dumping! The sun is out and quite honestly I am looking forward to a blue sky powder day...phew, it's a hard life.

Saturday morning was supurb after the fresh snow that fell on Friday, the sun was shining and the resort seemed fairly quiet after the mayhem of the first half term week! We headed up to Inversens and skied down to Les Bauches in sunshine and light new snow...wonderful! The pistes around Montchavin and over in Peisey were in good shape too with only the odd icy suprise on the man made bits!! Things are looking good for the next week with no dramatic change in the freezing levels expected.

Today is another sunny and cloudy day, with a chilly wind from the north east and we can see the weather front off in the distance that is threatening some snow for tonight. The resort is busy again with the Parisien school holidays in full swing now!! So once again skiing between 12 and 2 is recomended. Bon Ski.

Fresh snow with high winds at the midstation have produced nice conditions in the village and at the top of the mountain, with firmer snow in the middle which will be a good base for the snow falls expected through the week. Powder bumps and fun times on the flats for today and nice snow for the rest of the week.

The clouds have set in and we're expecting a decent 10 - 15cm snowfall tonight, but the light has been very flat today and yesterday, apart from a couple of hours in the sunshine yesterday afternoon which softened everything up and it was like a late season slushy jib day! After a murky couple of days, the sun got out in style this afternoon, the temperature have finally got up to something pleasant, the google marks are appearing and lift is good - even half term hasn't been as crazy as normal! Breckenridge

18 February 2010

We had two inches over night and the conditions are excellent. The terrain here is so vast, we went up Breck yesterday and boarded on and around the runs on 7, 8, and 9 and there is SO much more still to explore. The terrain is amazingly varied and all the runs are really wide and well kept, and it's SO empty - you literally feel like the only person on the mountain! I keep looking about for potential people I'm about to crash into and there just aren't any! It's brilliant, and there are no ques for the lifts either. It was snowing lightly all day yesterday and there is a light covering but even though there was a big black cloud the sun was still out and I am working on some gnarly goggle marks. The locals are saying that it's not been an epic year for snow, but I have to say the conditions here whip the arse of any I've seen this season in Europe.

Just as reported from Winter Park, conditions in Breckenridge have improved dramatically in the past few days. Some new trails have appeared & even on the busy holiday weekend there were fresh tracks to find. Locals had been telling me that this was the worst start to a winter since 1981. Apparently, according to some stories in the local press, El-Nino years such as this one can mean March is actually a great month for snowfall. The current outlook for the rest of the week looks promising.

Avalanche danger still very high.  If we do get a lot of snow in a short period of time every slide path at the pass should rip huge.  The problem is 2 very fragile layers in the snowpack.  Bummer.

Regardless, you can still ski very low angle terrain safely.  Did it yesterday, will do it again today.  Dogs need exercise after all, and so do I.

KrabFor probably the first time in 2010 (certainly after the New Year week) the thermometer has been above freezing level at lift opening time 9am this morning. More cloud today and more snow looks like it's on its way tomorrow.

Snow reports have been a bit thin on the ground with absolutely top conditions all around The Three Valleys in the past couple of weeks. This year has seen regular top ups of snow with no prolonged spell of high pressure (yet) that often happens in January.

Main UK Half Term this week as well as the French Holidays and as busy as ever but lifts appear to be coping well and queues are mostly well managed with single skier lanes on key lifts.

It's the turn of the Parisians next week as their Half Term kicks off but by no means fully booked in resort, plenty of beds still available and some bargains about.

We have experienced sunshine and clouds recently but now the sky is very overcast. More snow is forecast for late tomorrow, overnight and posssibly for the next few days. The French, some British and Dutch school holidays are upon us so we are expecting an increase in people next week. The British school hols start in force the week after, so things will be far busier on the slopes and in lift lines.

The forecast as I write is for more snow tomorrow with sunshine on Sunday and Monday the freezing levels remain around 1200 metres.

It's snowing pretty hard in resort this morning and that's on the back of a pretty good fall last weekend of over a foot. In fact last weekend we were even catching fresh tracks down the pistes with 25cm of fresh, light snow on a nicely groomed base.

Forecasts say it'll be heaviest between midday and 1400, so more to come...

The feb snow is starting to come....hopefully!  snowed lightly in the villages and on all the mountains over the weekend but sunshine has definitely been holding it better.  Lake louise has been pretty hard and icy until the sun softens things up a bit. Sunshine has got more snow and the groomers and park are in very good condition, there was even a fair bit of loose, fresh snow about today.  Hope it keeps snowing!

It's still very cold here, the warmest place and bst viz is in the trees! Snow condtions on piste are very good but there are some icy bits in the well used parts. Been skiing down to Montalbert where the pistes are in good condition, there are a few man made snow piles about so things are looking good long term. As I write this things seem to be a bit brighter and Mont Blanc is basking in sunshine!

Tomorrow looks like it may be warmer with some sun, hope so! Then back to more snowfall towards the end of the week.

28 January 2010

So the dump of snow we have been due for the past 2 weeks had finaly hit...big time!  It's been snowing hard for 18 hours now and things are loading up nicely!  The World Economic Forum is currently taking place in Davos so the town is packed and the slopes are empty.......the worlds press are'nt big on skiing it seems although Bill Gates and MR Clinton rolled into town today so maybe I'll bump into one of them (and cover them in snow!)

We've had excellent piste conditions for most of the seaaon and everything is open. Our pipes and parks have been hugly updated and built up this year so be sure to check them out if for no other reason that to see how ridiculously HUGE our kickers are!

With all this snowing coming down we'll be right back up to speed off piste as well. Be warned though that the Avalanche risk will be high due to the sheer volume of snow coming down. Check SLF.CH for local avalanch bullitins in English. Now go get your shred on!

Plenty of snow, a new park, two super pipes and we're only five weeks in! Conditions are excellent and that's down to the temperature. Last significant snowfall was over 2 weeks ago but it's been so cold and quiet that piste, park and pipe conditions are amazing!

We have just played host to the 6* TTR event 'The O'Neill Evolution' in Davos and it went off! The best riders from around the world putting down their stuff in our 24ft walled super pipe and custom built slopestyle course. Check out the pics! Oh, and by the way they have left everything in for us to play on....gulp!

We have had sporadic snow showers putting a few inches on top of things three or four times in the last two weeks but by and large most of the accessible off piste is needing a good dump! That said our conditions have been considerably safer than lots of places around Europe as we have maintained such low temperatures. Assuming that stays the case our next dump will consolidate with the current snow pack making for some truly epic conditions....I can't wait!

Everything in resort is open and good to go including the recently re-opened Shatzalp bahn...a freeride mecca that's been closed for six years! This place is legendary! Catch up with our video snow reports on www.Snoveo.com and check out our latest pictures and videos on our site www.Synergysnowsports.com. Don't hesitate to get in touch for the latest conditions here in Davos.
