THE NATIVES SHOW LOVE TOUR 2009/10

The penultimate Show Love Tour party was held in the Pub Mont Blanc in Vallandry last Wednesday evening and what an awesome night it was! Events manager Simon has the down low...

Vallandry

Tracker, the owner of the Mont Blanc bar in Vallandry, had booked the band Doctor Bruce for the gig. I was familiar with them as I’d bumped into Charlie, the lead guitarist, only three days before in the Summit nightclub in Val Thorens.

This was a rather fortuitous meeting as I’d not planned on going out that night, but Duncan from The Frog And Roastbeef Pub had bended my arm somewhat, and after a Chartreuse or two or three, we found ourselves a wee bit wobbly and heading for the Summit.

VallandryIn conversation with Charlie I spoke about our forthcoming event in Vaujany the following Wednesday, but was informed we were actually going to Vallandry - a resort about three hours in the opposite direction! I could have looked like a right donkey turning up in the wrong resort for our party 200 kilometers away. Easy mistake to make though as both resorts do begin with a “V” I suppose? This story, I realise, doesn’t make me look good but it’s one which I felt I had to share with you as I found it rather amusing.

Anyway, the night got off to a great start with the bar filling really quickly and we managed to give away some fab prizes before the band took to the stage.

VallandryRoss Neil from Falkirk took a Ski Club of Great Britain and Natives goody bag that included a Warren Smith DVD, Natives Show Love Tour t-shirt, Aether Mobile worldwide roaming sim card, plus lots of nice bits from the Ski Club. Gina O’Toole, on holiday from South London, won the brilliant bright white sunnies from Blackfly and Andrea Maccioni who works in Jimmy’s Bar also won herself an impressive Santa style filled Natives and Ski Club goody bag.

By 10.30pm the bar was packed and Doctor Bruce got the first half of their set underway. They played some really cool classic old 80s numbers, plus some of the songs we hear in the charts today. They warmed the crowd up nicely before taking a break and handing the mic back to me to continue with our prize draw!

Gareth Wasp from the Mont Blanc bar was delighted to win himself the ProFeet wheelie bag, while Lizzy Barnard who works for Esprit won herself a yearly subscription to Fall Line Ski Magazine. Olly Birch from London took away a goody bag while Ashley Mackissact from Glasgow won a Greeneye t-shirt. The last prize of the night was the Greeneye hoody and it was won by Greame Langhurn who’s doing a season in Vallandry and working as a ski bum.

After the last draw had been made the band were back on stage for part two and what a second half performance we all witnessed! I’ve not seen scenes like it since the very first Madness reunion gig at Finsbury Park, where I happened to be at the front of the stage when they opened with One Step Beyond! The Pub Mont Blanc had the same amount of jumping and frenzied party action, that at one point the band's speakers were almost sent flying from their stands!
We had an hour of massive classics, with the finale being a 15 minute medley which consisted of every shout-out loud, rocky little number you could think of. I’ve seen a lot of bands in the mountains over a 21 year period, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band that’s managed to rock the foundations as much as Doctor Bruce did on Wednesday.

I’d like to say a big thank you to Tracker and his team for providing us with what has to be the party of the year so far. It was absolutely brilliant! Last up on the calendar is Morzine at the Carverne Pub on Wednesday 31 March. It's got a lot to live up to!!!
