play, rest and work in les menuires

Les Menuires is often bypassed by 3V guests as they head for the altitude of its neighbour Val Thorens.

All the more reason to head here. At 1800m it's high enough for great snow, plus there's La Masse on your doorstep.

Don't come here if you want 'chocolate box chalets' - come here for the snow!

Bars and Clubs
Les Menuires isn't internationally renowned for its evening entertainment, but there's enough to have a bit of fun.

The resort is split into 3 main levels, Reberty which is the highest part and has the Leeberty nightclub, they used to show some old school cheesy snow surf
videos before they open the dance floor. There's a few bars dotted around in Reberty as well.

The main resort is Croisette, which is a horseshoe passage way of shops and bars. There are a couple of nitespots, On the Rocks Café, which is painfully expensive and has live music (the usual U2, police, queen e.t.c covers) and the passport, which is the biggest club in the resort, the have different music on different nights, a typical french disco…… there's also The Sphere a first choice bar with sat tv. etc La Mousse an internet café with a pool table and more choice of beer than the rest of the alps, and a few other french bars.

The lowest part of resort (Preyerand) is the home of The Yeti, this is a Dutch bar and it can get pretty steamy, worth a visit.

Off-piste
Les Menuires has loads of off-piste, mostly starting on La Masse at the top of the second telecabine. There's more untracked opportunity here than any other part of the Three Valleys.

You can drop off towards the Lac Du Lou and VT down the itinerary (not very steep and usually tracked to death) or off the side behind the pisteurs hut under the rope (south facing and prone to avalanche).

If you follow the ridge down from the hut and stay on the Menuires side there's a lovely bowl you can fly down. You can also take the chair and hike a bit and find some peaceful backcountry.

There are itineraries down to St Martin and Villaroger, but there only worth doing if the snowline is low, you book a cab and you don't mind walking a bit.

On the other side of the valley there's loads of ways of getting to Meribel-Mottaret without needing a piste. Walking up the 50 metres from the top of the Beca drag lift gets you to a rarely done powder field to Meribel.

The First Choice workers are well known for there kicker days, so get in with them if you like air….

Moguls
The Black Pylones run and Lac noir can be bumpy if that's your thing.

Speed
Pylones is also one of the steepest runs in the 3V's. It's a good run to flatline after its been pisted. If you're ready for it.

La Masse top to bottom is another quick run especially if you get first lift up (which is what the night porters usually do before sleeping).

Snowparks
Menuires board park can be good, a couple of hits, a spine and one or 2 pipes, that have been well designed (they also own the only Dragon in the valley, but don't use it as much as they should).

Events
Menuires hosts a couple of big events every year and they build another pipe (international standard) and more kickers. There's usually one event that's open to everyone, and one international or invitational.

There's also the 3V rally, a yearly race for all the seasonaires in the 3 valleys.

Away Days
Annecy, is everyone's favourite and there's usually a few cars floating about. Some companies arrange a staff bus for nights out in VT as well.

Shopping
The Tds at Capricorn under the bridge and the Intersport next to the 'On The Rocks'. But most people shop in VT.

Internet Cafés
La Mousse has about 5 PC's and offer printing, at the best rates in resort. Some other bars and a few hotels have one PC, but these are more expensive and not so quick.

Eating Out
The Trattoria (pizza), Perdrix Blanche (pizza and gizzards), La Hacienda - tex mex, and in Reberty Les Marmites Du Geant (steak and duck)

Mountain Restaurants
The Restaurant at the halfway stage of the Mont De La Chambre is where the Torchlit descent is run and the views from the restaurant at the top of La Masse are spectacular..

McDonalds
nearest mcd's is Albertville about 45 minutes drive but there's a kebab shop in Moutiers by the train station.

Shopping Day
Moutiers or Albertville have the best supermarkets. You can bump into all the chalet shoppers in the 3V on Wednesday and Thursdays.

Transfer Day
Transfers can come from Moutiers (snow-train) and flights from Chambery, Lyon and Geneva. Chambery seems to be everyone's favourite airport, it's better than the tent at Lyon at least.

Après-ski Options
Buses to VT, Torchlit Descents and pub crawls if you can find enough bars.

Living
Most of the action is in the Croisette, it can be a long cold walk to Reberty and Preyerand at 2 in the morning when it's snowing. So if you do live in either of these, try to blag some floor space, before you get too pissed.
