CV advice

We can help you find a job - but to do this we need the right tools, the most important of which is a strong CV.

This can make the difference in securing an interview over and above other applicants. Employers receive hundreds of CVs, and may only spend 10-20 seconds scanning yours, so it must stand out.

The following format generally works well: sample CV format (100KB)

To help you on your way, we have put together some basic guidelines. So before you send us your CV, please have a read through:

General Tips

  • Try to fit it on 2 pages if at all possible
  • Put the most important information on the first page
  • Ensure your contact details are up to date
  • If you've had lots of jobs, list only the most recent
  • Start with the most recent jobs and work backwards
  • Summarise key areas of previous job roles
  • Include all relevant qualifications/skills
  • Highlight any personal achievements
  • Include hobbies, interests and voluntary work
  • Ensure any gaps in your CV are explained
  • CHECK SPELLING - ask a friend or relative to check it too
  • Be honest!

Tailoring your CV

You should always adapt your CV to the job you are applying for, by highlighting certain areas of experience or particular skills, and playing down less relevant experience, for example;

Where the job requires specific qualifications, ensure full details of these are included.

If you are applying for a chalet/villa cook position and have little vocational cookery experience, but enjoy cooking, or hold dinner parties for friends, ensure this is included in your 'Interests' section.

For Resort Rep/Manager roles, organisation and communication skills are extremely important, so focus on these areas.

Remember, unless you are going for a senior position, employers are not going to expect you to have had experience of working seasons, but by putting the skills they are looking for upfront - ideally on the first page - you'll help your application.

The best of the worst.

"Proven ability to track down and correct erors."
 "I am a rabid typist."
"Here are my qualifications for you to overlook"
"Am a perfectionist and rarely if if ever forget details"
"I am relatively intelligent, obedient and loyal as a puppy"
"Note: Keep this CV on top of the stack. Use all others to heat your house"
"Also Known As: Mr. Productivity, Mr. Clever, Mr. Fix-it"
"I have an excellent track record, although I am not a horse
"

Once your CV is up to date, search for jobs to see what's available, or fill in our Jobfinder form. We will contact you for your CV if we have anything suitable.
