Press Release: Barman Voted Best Ski Resort Job
LONDON - 30 August 2001 - A recent online survey on Natives (www.natives.co.uk) shows resort workers believe that being a barman is the best job to have in a ski resort.
The glamorous role was voted top, apparently in the belief is that bar staff can go skiing every day and have fun during the evenings in their work.
The truth, according to Richard Lett, Operations Manager for Dicks Tea Bar chain in Meribel, Val d'Isere and Chamonix, is rather different. 'Working in a bar is much harder work than most people imagine,' says Lett. 'The hours are long and unsociable, and although you can ski all day, when you've finished work at 5am, you might not be able to!'
The second most popular job was Plongueur (washer-upper). This was also on the same basis that there is little in your work to stop you getting on the mountain - which doesn't say much for the ambitions of those who voted!
The full results were:
1. Barman 31%
2. Plongeur 19%
3. Ski Guide 14%
4. Chalet Host 13%
5. Instructor 10%
6= Resort Rep 6%
6= No job at all 6%
