Resort blogger Laura on the beginning of spring in La Tania

Catch up with Laura in La Tania with the latest installment of her seasonaire blog...

Spring is here!

As lame as it may be and as grateful as I am for being present for such a ripper of a season with the constant snowfall in February, I have been looking forward to spring.

I've always had the best fun boarding during spring. Everyone seems a little bit more relaxed, as the sun shines just that little bit longer and you're out the door quicker as a result from not having to throw on so many layers.

The snowy slush has just started to appear in the last week, alas, conditions are still good out there on the mountain, and even with the school holidays at the moment it's still easy to find yourself cruising down the mountain with only a handful of souls in sight. They are, however, usually handfuls of awkward punters and it can be quite trying at times..

Spring also means more time spent in the park, and there's quite a few to choose from over here. In Meribel there's the DC Area 43 snowpark as well as the Moon Park, where you can swipe your lift pass and record your session, then download it and watch it on your iphone later. Easily accessible is the Courchevel 1850 family park on the main drag Verdons and of course there's Val Thorens, whose park however I have yet to check out.

With our chalet jam packed with guests at the moment, and my recent week of sickness (with a guest appearance from middle ear infection) to be honest I have been taking the last two weeks pretty easy.

I'm also half way through my six week online course with Tara Bliss, which I mentioned in my previous post. Some of you may think that I am a little crazy for turning a blind eye to the party scene whilst working in a ski resort, but I am enjoying putting my energy into more productive things, and cranking up my health. I have harnessed the power of contently saying 'no thanks!' to that extra beer at apres sessions and on the occasion that I do feel like a drink, I bloody well do, and I feel as though I enjoy it more. I've been getting back into my green smoothies (much to the dismay of my fellow work mates), finally throwing out old crap that I've been carrying around with me for the past year, and have been learning about my chakras!

For those who love a good party there's always something going down in and around La Tania. With the busy period there has also been some live bands playing on the terrace in the afternoon at the lovely Bouc Blanc restaurant, which has amazing views out over the valley on a clear day (they also do a mean affordable lunch). Fun party band and crowd pleasers The Dominos play a weekly Friday apres session at the Rond Point in Meribel. And for something completely different, Meribel also hosts a weekly street market on Tuesday on the Route de la Montee. Next week I plan on getting my fitness after snowboarding and visiting the Meribel Olympic Centre to squeeze in an afternoon Pilates session and a jacuzzi.

Wednesday night was the last night skiing session at Courchevel 1850 front de neige for this season, and I am so glad I finally made it along. Free for season workers, although missing was the free vin chaud (!) it was good fun cruising around through the Verdons Family Park under the lights (and to the guy who had the light up snowboard.. amazing! where can I get one?!?). x
