Blackcomb in Canada opened its lifts for the
season this weekend. Our on-the-spot reporter
tells us that thanks to snowmaking, eager skiers and
riders were able get onto the mountain's hard packed
80cm base a week earlier than last year.
Another member of the CdS
reports that little snow has fallen in Colorado, but
the state's high altitude means producing and maintaining
artificial snow is going well.
Poor conditions elsewhere have led to the
first World Cup races of the season, scheduled for
Park City in Utah, being postponed and shifted to
the higher state. The official race season will now
start on November 19 at Copper Mountain..
