Glasgow
University have confirmed that BUSC 2001 will be returning
to Saalbach with Wasteland Ski as the official operator.
Nick Lonie, Chairman of BUSC
2001, told Natives that he was delighted to be working
with both organisations.
'BUSC 2000 in Saalbach was a
great success and we were very happy with both the
resort and the operator,' Nick told Natives. 'We expect
BUSC 2001 to be even bigger and better.'
An earlier start date will help
(see below), as will dealing with Saalbach, rather
than Saas Fee (see
previous BUSC reports). From our own experience
visiting the Championships this
year, Saalbach is an excellent choice as they
went out of their way to make the students welcome.
The BUSC organising committee's
problems seem more likely to come from the press,
who love sensationalising the event. This year's committee
ended up being quoted on BBC Radios 4 and 5, The Daily
Telegraph (before
the event) and The Sunday Times (after),
while trying to defend alleged 'news' stories.
