As we are now living in a digital era, technology has taken over almost every part of our daily lives and job searching is part of that. With the internet providing us so many great opportunities for job searching, it is important that we take advantage of what is accessible to us.

While the basics of job hunting remains to be the same process of firstly finding a job that is relevant to you and your skills and then applying for it, the internet has changed how we go about getting jobs in the first place and bettering ourselves to increase our chances of landing a new job.

Online Networking

One of the most effective methods of finding a job online is by networking. Previously, networking would have taken place in person at places such as job fairs but these days we are able to put ourselves on sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn where we can connect with potential employees.

According to a survey poll, by placement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, that was released in August 2017, networking sites are now the second-most effective method and in person networking is slowly fading away and taking a back seat in the process.

Improve Your Options

The internet has given us plenty more options when it comes to finding jobs by giving us a much large scope. Within minutes we are able to search for job openings and be faced with dozens to look through. Where we were once limited to just the ads we found within newspaper classifieds, we are now able to find jobs that are not just within our town but on the other side of the globe.

Websites such as Bloomberg are perfect for searching for jobs within your area as well as remote jobs that are relevant to your skillset and experience. Within seconds, you are able to begin searching through a wide range of jobs that may be of interest.

Online job hunting is much more productive as usually the employer will include a lengthy article on what the job entails, what type of candidate they are looking for and who they are as a company. All of this information would be impossible to find into a small ad in the local newspaper, which means you are saving time by quickly ruling out some job openings.

Gaining New Skills

Previously, we were only able to improve our chances of getting employment by enrolling into classes or taking part in some of the opportunities that may be around in our local area. However, with the help of the internet we are now able to get onto online courses as well as teaching ourselves some new skills by reading articles and watching videos.

Sites such as Brighter Monday are perfect for not only searching for potential new job opportunities but also finding some training courses to get enrolled on. The site has a great search tool so within seconds you can be looking through courses that are relevant to the type of skills you wish to improve on or gain.

Freelancing

With the rise of the internet, freelancing has been given an extra boost. Freelancers are now finding it much easier to find work as they are able to find clients from across the globe rather than just within their local area. Freelancers are also able to get in touch with potential clients through email and networking online, which means that they are able to talk with many more people than they would have been able to in person.

Online CV

There are many websites out there that enable you to place your CV on their site so potential employers and agencies can find you and approach you themselves. By writing up a good CV and cover letter and putting them online, you are opening yourself up to a range of additional job opportunities as often companies do not advertise their openings and rather keep it exclusive.

If you need any help with writing up an excellent CV there are many writing services out there such as Best Australian Writers who would be able to help you by creating you the perfect CV.

Research

Once you have managed to get yourself an interview with a potential employer, the internet comes in handy for preparing for your interview. The internet allows you to easily research the company to give you an edge on the rest of the candidates by impressing them with your knowledge of their company. Without the internet, this just wouldn’t be possible unless you had contacts with the company already.

Not only are you able to research the company, but the internet provides many excellent sites such as Interview Success Formula that enable you to prepare for your interview and how to answer certain questions that may come up.
