BUSC
was the victim of more sensationist journalism this
weekend when the recent Championships were featured
in The Sunday Times.
Natives is quite happy to admit a degree of bias -
we are a sponsor of BUSC and pleased to be so - but
this sort of article benefits no one. Let's look at
the facts:
1.
The writer didn't attend the event
2.
Locals were hardly 'aghast' at the amount of drinking
going on - more like rubbing their hands together
in glee
3.
Contrary to the article's suggestions, Saalbach
is hoping to persuade BUSC to return for next year's
event
4.
It is ridiculous (libelous?) to say that the BUSC
committee was not worried by some antics. The
daily newsletter regularly appealed to students
to respect the locals, be careful when out on the
town and to avoid drugs.
Yes,
there was one very serious incident, but the rest
was just young people having a good time.
Natives
wonders if the real motivation behind the article
was to link such terrible behaviour with the major
sponsor of BUSC - The Daily Telegraph!
