BUSC STARTS WITH A BANG

10 April 2000

Fireworks at the opening ceremony greeted the 1500 BUSCateers at the British Universities Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm.

With racing due to start today, there has already been plenty of action in the first 24 hours of the student occupation of the resort.  Hinterglemm really seems a perfect destination for this type of event.  The Tourist Office are very relaxed and seem to understand that a few dramas are bound to occur with so many people drinking so much.

Unfortunately, one such drama involved a room in one of the hotels going up in flames.  An investigation is still going on, but it appears taht the fire started due a hob left on.  The six girls from Aberdeen University who were staying in the room escaped without injury, although on e of the party is receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.

The 'Party Ohne Ende' continues, but slightly more soberly (if such a thing is possible).
