Finlay
Mickel was honoured by his home city of Edinburgh this week when
he was named Senior Sports Person of the Year for 2004-05.
String of successes
Mickel was nominated alongside 8 other candidates in his category
and won because of his breakthrough season in 2004-05 when he collected
a string of top 20 results in Downhill and SuperG, 11th place at
the World Champs in Bormio, Italy and winning the men’s downhill
at the British Land National Championships in Meribel, France.
Training
commitments
The awards which were established two years ago receive nominations
from sports clubs, governing bodies, and members of the public.
Due to training commitments, Finlay was unable to collect his award
in person and Jason Cockburn, CEO of SnowsportGB, the sport’s governing
body collected the trophy and cheque on his behalf at the ceremony,
which was held in the City Chambers.
