Mt Hutt ski area will open for the 2005 season tomorrow, June
4. The Canterbury ski area will become the first ski area in Australasia
to open for the winter season following a cold spell and has both
man made and natural snow.
New for this season
The relocated exhibition quad chair would offer access to a newly
formed novice trail. Recently named "Highway 72" after the Inland
Scenic Route 72 that can be seen from the trail, it is 1.2km long
and averages 25 to 30 metres wide.
First time skiers and boarders will benefit from a new magic carpet
that makes getting onto the slopes easier than ever. "Skiers and
riders will find a new layout to the ski area when they arrive this
weekend," said ski area manager Dave Wilson.
"We've got an average base of 25cms on open trails and are really
keen to get open and get going for the season."
New six man
The brand new Summit Six chair and associated new trails will open
once snow conditions allow. In keeping with tradition, the first
four people on the Quad chairlift at 9am will receive coveted 'First
on the Chair 2005' T-shirts. Champagne will be served at the base
of the quad.
Non-skiers and beginners will be very welcome to check out the new
layout. "We are planning to offer free scenic rides on the new Summit
Six from around midday so people can access the top of the mountain
and see our improvements, free for the entire weekend subject to
conditions."

reports to keep up to date with conditions.
