All is boding well in the Southern Hemisphere - the snow is
already more than three feet deep at several of Chile’s leading
ski areas leading to a good early start to the season. Several centres
are even hoping to open a fortnight earlier than planned.
La
Parva improvements
The season at La Parva, near Chile’s capital Santiago, looks set
to be the best for years, not just because of these early natural
falls, but because after two successive seasons of operating for
less than 90 days each year, the resort has built a 45,000 cubic
meter holding pond that feeds a new snowmaking system.
The resort can now lay down snow from
Tress Mil Cien to the very bottom of the lowest Poma. Also the resort
has modified the road system to allow for better access to the lowest
parts of the village.
