Last chance Rage weekend
The packed weekend proveds one last chance to celebrate winter in
Vermont. This event is geared for everyone from the hardcore athlete
to the weekend warrior looking to cut loose and live large on the
final weekend of the 2004-05 ski and snowboard season.
The 15th Annual Killington Triathlon kicks off Rage
Weekend as competitors trade their ski and snowboard boots for cycling
and running shoes. The three-event triathlon features a ski/snowboard
run down Superstar, a five-mile mountain bike ride, followed by
a 2.5-mile cross-country run, starting at 10:30 a.m.
The event will be followed by the final Budweiser Winter Concert
Series show featuring Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, with special
guest Big Fuzz on the outdoor stage at the K-1 Lodge.
On Sunday the Killington Klimb, a footrace to the top of Killington
Peak where competitors choose their own course, will take place
at 10 a.m. Starting at the K-1 Lodge and finishing just below the
summit of Killington Peak, the fastest times are usually around
20 minutes. You can register for these events online at www.killington.com.
Taking parking seriously at Arapahoe Basin
The
winter ski season continues at Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, which is
still 99% open and has received over three feet of snow since late
April, still boasting a 60” midway base.
Due to unprecedented ski conditions for this time of the year and
with the other ski areas in the region closed, A-Basin has been
extremely busy on the weekends.
The best plan is to hop on a free shuttle from the
River Run lot at Keystone down the road to avoid difficult late
morning and afternoon parking situations at the base of the mountain.
With a zero-tolerance policy in operation, if you park illegally
at A-Basin, you will be towed - not a good end to a great day on
the mountain!
A-Basin also encourages skiers and riders to carpool. Fill a vehicle
with four people or more, take them all to the ticket window (even
if some of them have passes) and receive a discounted lift ticket
for those in the car who need a ticket for $30.
Shakin' the Basin
Arapahoe Basin heats things up this May with the "Shakin' at the
Basin Free May Concert Series". Every Saturday in May A-Basin will
have free live entertainment from 1 pm to 4 pm in the base area
of the ski area. A-Basin is scheduled to close for the season on
5 June 2005.
