North American ski area developers Intrawest, the company behind
Whistler Blackcomb and Les Arcs 1950, has signed a second agreement
with Compagnie des Alpes to build another resort development in
France.
2500 new beds in Flaine
This time Intrawest will create 2500 tourist beds at Flaine. This
agreement will lead to the sale of major building rights between
2006 and 2010, with the rental beds deliveries between 2008 and
2012.
The first project between Compagnie des Alpes and Intrawest, led
to the creation of 3,800 beds at Les Arcs 1950, and was finished
ahead of schedule.
Real estate boom
The real estate market in the French alps has been very dynamic
over the past few years. In the resorts of Compagnie des Alpes,
approximately 3500 new beds per year have been created over each
of the past five years and numerous further projects are underway.
Despite environmental pressure groups campaigning against further
development, the construction of new tourist beds is a key driver
for growth in ski resorts.
