A fire earlier this month partially destroyed the P&V residence
and required the evacuation of 600 people. No one was injured, but
the damage was considerable as flames went up over 20m high.
'The fire was very violent. The windows of apartment exploded because
of the heat,' the head of the local fire service, Gerard Berlioz
told reporters.
Seventy fireman from across the Tarentaise
fought the blaze. A restaurant, the P&V reception, a mini supermarket,
ski shop and the popular bar Sherlocks were all destroyed.
An enquiry to determine the cauase of the fire will be held in St
Martin de Belleville later this month.
