WOMEN ONLY EVENT FOR ARCTIC CHALLENGE

31 March 2005

This year's Arctic Challenge will host its first women's jam sessions, with the Burton Dame Double Down.

The event will consist of both quarter-pipe and half-pipe events on April 02 and 03, for the comp held in Tromso and Finnsnes, Norway. There will also be a slopestyle session on April 05 in Lofoten.

The Burton Dame Double Down is a platform for a group of hand-picked women to showcase their talents and skills to a worldwide audience. The invited list of riders includes: Anne Molin Kongsgaard, Gretchen Bleiler, Torah Bright, Elena Height, Silvia Mittermuller, Dorianne Vidal and Kjersti Buaas. It's not just prizes at stake, but the respect of the world's best riders.

"The Arctic Challenge is one of the most progressive, rider-driven events in the world," said Olympic gold medalist, Nicola Thost. "It's been all about the guys for the past five years, and although some ladies would drop in here and there, they've never gotten the recognition they've deserved."

Terje Haakonsen, founder and organizer of the Arctic Challenge, said "Women's snowboarding has progressed a lot and the Arctic Challenge will showcase the highest level of female freestyle snowboarding ever"

In addition to prizes awarded for performance in half-pipe and quarter-pipe, Burton is presenting a special bonus prize for the most progressive riding. $3500 will be awarded in the form of a weekend shopping trip to New York City, a trip to an exotic destination of the winner's choice or a charitable donation.
