Snow Update
Superb piste skiing first thing if you can drag yourself out of
bed but gradually deteriating through the day with icy spots and
the odd thin bits in heavy traffic areas. Ski early, lunch early
and try La Masse, 1650 and St Martin for some space during the next
couple of French half term weeks.
Heads down it's February
But what a last month of snow and parties....George of Shibboleth
and Bjorn Again fame has dragged out to the Alps (on the promise
of unlimited girl groupies) Danny on keyboards (from the awesome
70's covers band The Funkin' Barstewards) and Leicester lad James
singing his heart out and perfectly complementing George on the
guitar front. After a first couple of gigs called George's Threesome
they've now settled on Campari Impact. Probably only 'til the rest
of Shib bother to turn up but then a duo perhaps?

Ok so Europe's The Final Count Down is a bit cheesy
for an encore but by that time you'll love 'em. The Keane and Maroon
5 numbers are done with so much passion and they could give U2 a
lesson in their version of Vertigo - it'll be blasting around your
head all day on the slopes tomorrow... Playing the Ski Lodge on
Thursdays and La Taiga on Sundays plus the usual Meribel, Les Allues
haunts etc.
Procreation
It's been baby time once again in La Tania
another 2 year round residents (and there's only about 20 in total!).
Congrats to Rox & Phil on the birth of Jake and to Howie & Elodie
on the birth of Malou. There really must be something on the water
- Wanabee Instructor Gaz and Julie had a baby in December and there's
another one in a couple of weeks following a Ski Lodge / Mountain
Centre union! Any excuse for a champagne party though...

Avalanche risk and frostbite
Back on the snow it's been a great few weeks but the dangers of
the mountains never very far away. Seven deaths in the Savoie region
have been reported due to avalanches and the extremely cold weather
caused frost bite to one of the workers here. A hole in his glove
was ignored and he suffered for it - only superficial it turns out
and treated with some drugs after he eventually visited the local
doctor becoming fed up with everyone telling him he would lose his
arm.
Rob had more bad luck on Sunday breaking a snowboard
binding 2 valleys away from La Tania. He did ride back though, free
heeling is the way forward - Teleboarding anyone?
General
shinanigans
Finally Ski Lodge, Lodge du Village and La Taiga Restaurant owner
Tim Wall celebrated his birthday in the usual style with Music,
Champagne and Nakedness..
Mardi Gras on Tuesday night saw much of the same
too but for now it's heads down and see you in March and if I meet
another Parisian Teenager on a snowblade jumping out of the forest
straight in to my path I'll ............
