SLUGGISH SALES FORCE OPERATOR DISCOUNTS

16 November 2004

Ski operators are being forced to heavily discount December packages because slow sales have left them with thousands of trips still to sell.

Bumper season yet to appear
Operators were expecting a bumper season on the back of heavy snowfalls in Europe and the US last year, but so far that has failed to materialise.

Ifyouski.com product manager David Norris said: "Bookings have picked up in the past few days, but before then it was pretty slow. I think there will be discounts throughout the season because companies have added a lot of holidays after a good winter last year."

US and Canada deals
There are also discounts to the United States and Canada, which are expecting an increase in bookings this season because of the strength of the pound against the dollar.

A spokeswoman for Crystal, which is offering discounted December packages to Aspen, Colorado, said: "If people are specific about where they want to go, the type of accommodation and dates, then they need to book early. But, as always, if people are flexible, then there will be deals."
