PM kicks off festival
The 2004 Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival kicked off with a bang
on Friday night. It was New Zealand PM Helen Clark who got the festival
under-way at the lake-side opening party, with displays from local
schools and performers, before a fantastic fireworks display over
lake Wakatipu. Queenstown then partied the night away with every
bar in town bursting at the seams!
Saturday saw The Remarkables ski area open it's doors for the first
time this season, a street parade, a Jimmy Barnes concert and yet
more partying (it seems that the people here have no need for sleep!).
Action
packed
The next seven days are packed with events
for everybody with the most notable being:
Mon 28th - 42 Below Celebrity Ski Race @ Coronet Peak ( and
the cocktail competition that follows it!)
Thurs 1st - Bike Fix GT Mountain Bike Race @ Coronet Peak
& the Speights Winter Beerfest.
Fri 2nd - 1/2 Pipe Expression Session & Speights Dog Derby
@ Coronet Peak
Sun
4th - Boost Mobile Big Air @ the Big Air site, Gorge road.
All in all it looks to be a good week ahead... Snow on the mountains,
cheap beer in the bars and all sorts of stupid events to have a
go at! For more information on the Winter Festival visit winterfestival.co.nz.
