BATTLE OF THE SEXES

20 March 2004

Study reveals that men are more accident prone
A report in the International Journal of Clinical Practice analysed accidents at Britain's biggest indoor real-snow slope - Snowzone in Milton Keynes - and found that 86 per cent of snowboard accidents and 81 per cent of skiing accidents involved men. Phillip Hodson, a fellow of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, said: "When it comes to issues of risk, men are more stupid than women." [No comment... - Ed].

Men are only interested in talking about sport, money and what they are doing at the weekend. A study by MSN Messenger reveals that when it comes to conversation, most men tend to stick to just three main subjects. Thousands of online conversations involving men and women were monitored to discover what people really talk about.

Multi tasking not an option
They showed that for both sexes there are only seven basic topics of conversation. They are current culture, "solidarity" issues like stress and general health, food, relationships, money, social activity and general banter. But while women discussed all seven topics, men tended to only get involved with three or four.

The researchers found that men are able to talk about current culture, such as sport and music, money matters and the price of property, and social activity including what they are doing that weekend - plus general joking or mickey-taking. And three in 10 of these conversations stuck to just one topic throughout - most typically, sport. Women also chip in with emotional and personal issues. It seems they can skip from one topic to another while men focus on one subject in detail.
