On the eve of the Scotland v France Rugby International, Scot Finlay
Mickel snatched victory from French favourite Antoine Deneriaz,
in the French Championship Super G in Flaine.
Having finished runner up to Deneriaz in the previous two days of
downhill competition, Mickel attributed today's victory to an increasingly
relaxed state of mind and good course reports.
Nailing the line
A delighted Mickel said, "There were two gates in the middle of
the course which were the key to the entire race. Many had overturned.
I nailed a straigher line and worked the terrain. I was skiing on
the limit through that crucial section and carried greater speed
through the bottom section of the course."
"This is my best ever Super G finish and my fist race victory since
the German Championships in St Moritz."
Finlay remains on French snow, heading for Meribel where he hopes
to repeat his success at The 2004 British Land National Ski Championships,
which begin on Sunday (21/3/04).
Results: French National Super G Championships
1. Mickel 1'26.58
2. Deneriaz 1'26.92
3. Boutelier 1'27.23
