MORZINE UPDATE

01 January 2004

Enough rain already...
Things have turned pretty bleak in Morzine with it raining all through last night. But what's rain down here will be snow in Avoriaz, and judging by the tree line theres some powder to be had.

Although the freeride possibilities have been fairly limited the freestyle is looking up. The mini park in Avoriaz is in good nick right now so anyone looking to cut their freestyle teeth should go check it out. Those already initiated will find it a good warm up for the main parks of Avoriaz and Les Crosets which are still evolving due to lack of neige.

Rookies v Allstars
With new rail additions to the Avoriaz park it should be going off in the next couple of weeks in the build up to the much anticipated 'Fabulous Tournament' ,which will see Europes most promising upstarts (the rookies) versus a select 'Allstar' cast of riders battling it out over a series of modules including rails, hips and tre large kickers. This should more than make up for local hero Nico Droz's 'kick off' which had to be cancelled due to non existent snow conditions.

Mutzig and Marmite
On the social side things are proving to be a little more difficult to recount due to my select few but monumental nights out. However, some noteworthy places to check out are Bar Robinson which has Mutzig on tap (2 scoops and I'm out), the newly refurbished Les Alpes bar which has all the ingredients of a top boys night out (fusball, sega rally 1).

The new riders store 'Slopestyle' stocks some quality brands and also has an adjoining internet cafe where you can check your mails whilst munching on a few slices of marmite on toast. Quality!

Stay tuned for some Harlem Globetrotter style trickery in the next couple of weeks....
