Cable
car action
It's been a much hyped start to this winter with the new cable car
opening in Vallandry, linking Les Arcs and La Plagne to make up
the new Paradiski area.
It almost didn't look like it was going to happen, after a technician
managed to crash one of the cable cars into the housing, when he'd
over-ridden all the automatic safety features to perform a security
check (always reassuring!!!) So the lift has started with only one
car, but we're assured the other one will be back on for the end
of Jan.
Snow
and lots of boozy nights
Aside from the stunning view, which makes the trip worthwhile, early
reports suggest that traffic has been slow (and very one way) -
with lots of people coming over from La Plagne and not too many
in the other direction. Still it's been a pretty quiet week on the
slopes, so time will tell, when the New Year rush hits town this
weekend. The taxi companies are doing well out of it though - I've
had to call three already for stranded punters who missed the last
car home!!!
Resort opening in Vallandry last week was a typically messy affair
with 3 nights on the trot of big piss ups - starting with the new
Ecureuils bar in Plan Peisey, followed by Jimmy's and the Mont Blanc
opening, and then the Dahu to really top off the hangover.
Conditions on the mountain have been surprisingly good considering
that we haven't yet had much snow. I spent Christmas day itself
hiking around in Les Arcs, with plenty of fresh tracks to be had.
Lots of fun, and more snow forecast for this weekend. You just have
to assume that the bumps are definitely rocks!
Planet
Subzero news
The planet Subzero guys arrived in Tignes and Chamonix at the start
of the month, and have all settled in to chilled out life in the
Alps. After a mega one in Jacks in Tignes to mark the start of the
season (goddam pole dancing) life has calmed down and the guys have
been concentrating on getting some good photo and film footage together
for Tamzin's website.
Up in Chamonix, it's been a similarly large start with Dan's birthday
to set things off, followed by plenty of ski time and much vin chaud.
I'm heading up there this weekend to catch up with everyone and
get out on the mountain.
Have a great New Year, and looking forward to all the Planet guys
arriving in Vallandry on the 3rd Jan.
