One of the most common questions we get asked at Natives is how
you can get a job and work a season in Canada. Unfortunately we
have had to inform most excited job seekers that without a Canadian
visa, almost exclusively restricted to students, it would not be
possible.
BUNAC Work Canada extension
However the fantastic news that has just reached Natives is that
the Canadian High Commission in London has now approved BUNAC to
operate an extension to their existing popular Work Canada programme,
which will for the first time allow non-student British passport
holders aged 18-35 to undertake a 12 month working holiday in Canada.
Woo,
hoo! Suddenly a season in Whistler or Banff is within reach of everyone
(under-35!). You could choose between the many casual jobs available
out in the snow, or stick to the cities like Vancouver and Toronto,
and doing your skiing or boarding at the weekends.
Mountain, city, East or West
Anyone wanting to brush up their French or to find another two countries
divided by a common language, could try Quebec and the more European
side of Canada in Montreal. The work authorisation, which is exclusive
to BUNAC, will enable participants to:
- Work for up to 12 months, anywhere in Canada.
- Pre-arrange work or arrange work on arrival.
- Change jobs whilst in Canada.
Work Canada details
BUNAC is a not for profit organisation, well known amongst students,
which has organised international travel and work exchange programmes
for over 40 years. The Work Canada programme includes:
- UK pre-departure talks.
- Programme and visa administration.
- Programme literature.
- Support and advice in the UK.
- Arrival orientation – including fast track Social Insurance application.
- Support service in Canada.
First come, first served
This non-student programme, costing £153, is a once in a lifetime
opportunity, and consequently BUNAC is already anticipating high
demand. Bear in mind that places on the programme will be allocated
on first come first served basis, so don’t wait too long.
To allow for visa processing the earliest departure date to Canada
is anticipated to be 25th February 2004 and all work authorisation
holders must enter Canada no late than 31st December 2004.
Full Work Canada programme
details and application forms are available on the BUNAC
website.
