BRITAIN RIDES THE RUSSIAN STORM

Nokia Totally Board X-Treme Games
Three members of the British Development Snowboard Team, along with coach Craig Smith, travelled to Ukraine on Saturday to compete at the Xtreme-Games in Kiev. With 25 of the best riders invited from across Europe including Norway, Sweden, Germany and France and the cream of Russia, to compete in a Big Air event in the heart of Kiev. A daunting task for the young British team.

Lost luggage and melting snow
Even before the event started, chaos rained as the GBR team luggage was stranded in Zurich, for it only to arrive half an hour before the event. So to even be able to compete was a miracle in itself for the Brits. With a 75,000 strong crowd, the atmosphere was crazy, a true spectacle. However with the un-seasonally warm weather conditions and despite the best efforts of the organisers, the Big Air event was changed into a jib fest (rail competition).

Good British performance
The competition itself was full of drama with the first competitor breaking his collar bone on his first run. However the British team held it together with all 3 battling for top 5 spots. Tyler Chorlton (17) based in Andorra thrilled the crowd and took the overall title, with Ben Kilner (15) from Banchory taking second and Dominic Harington (19) from Leeds taking fifth. Coach Craig Smith said 'I expected them to do well, but they exceeded all my expectations. This has improved Britain's reputation tenfold. The young talent emerging in British snowboarding is unbelievable'.

The team look forward to competing on the FIS World Tour this coming season along with other prestigious events.
