SNOWDOME TO OPEN IN SEPTEMBER

27 August 2003

Snow is falling at Xscape - the entertainment centre where you can enjoy an action-packed day and night. Opening at the end of September, the snow has already started falling to make the 1,500 tonnes needed to cover the slope.

Real snow, cinema, bowling, climbing...
Boasting the country's biggest real snow slope, both beginner and regular skiers and boarders can discover the thrill of snow sports without needing a passport. Combine this with a 14 screen cinema, 20 lane computerised bowling, 2 rock climbing walls, the UK's biggest ice climbing wall, skate and air parks, bars, clubs, restaurants and urban-lifestyle shops, the result- you'll never want to leave!

Xscape has already proven to be a great success at Milton Keynes where this year alone it's on target to attract 6.5 million visitors. With its incredibly wide catchment area, similar success is expected in Castleford, located between the A1 and M62, next to Freeport, and close to the M1.

1,500 tonnes of snow
The charismatic French entrepreneur, PY Gerbeau, of Millennium Dome and EuroDisney fame, is responsible for bringing the sports, entertainment and shopping destination to Yorkshire. " Xscape is a fantastic concept which I am very excited to bring to Yorkshire. Since we started building on the Castleford site we have been overwhelmed by the huge public interest and attention from as far as Manchester."

"Our 1,500 tonnes of real snow will ensure year-round fun for skiers, boarders and bladers, from the beginner to the champion - and that's only part of the experience! The landmark 38 metres high building also has state of the art activities including a 16m ice-climbing wall, a tarzan-style assault course suspended 20m in the air and indoor and outdoor skate parks."
