Seven Vic ski resorts issued safety notices
The operators of seven alpine ski resorts in Victoria have been
issued improvement notices after a safety blitz on chairlifts.
Sixty-eight lifts have been checked
as part of a safety standard review by Worksafe Victoria in the
wake of January's Arthurs Seat chairlift collapse, in which 19 people
were injured. The improvement notices covered issues including the
guarding of equipment, electrical switches and evacuation procedures.
Industry safety standards
Victoria Worksafe executive director John Merritt says it is important
the industry learns the lessons from the Arthurs Seat incident.
"Following any serious incident, particularly one like Arthurs Seat,
it's most important that we learn these lessons and that they're
applied, but in doing it, you've got to work with the industry to
make sure they understand that it's their responsibility to provide
these safety standards."
