In Queenstown, the initial shock was long enough and sufficient enough to alarm everyone. Walls and floors rumbled and items were knocked off shelves. There were no known injuries or fatalities.

Many of the town's resort staff were still out drinking after the Natives Show Love party and initially took the quake for some over-enthusiastic dancing, until the walls as well as floor started to move.
