That's going to take some pulling
Work on the Vanoise Express, the prestigious new cable
car linking Les Arcs and La Plagne, has just begun an important
technical stage: the pulling of the cables.
Helicopter
access
On May 3, ahead of schedule and taking advantage of particularly
favourable air currents, COMAG used a helicopter to unroll the first
aramid fibre towrope between the terminals. The towrope, manufactured
especially by the French company Trefileurope, will eventually be
used to pull all of the cable bundles across, including the two
pairs of track cables that are 75 mm across and weigh 30 kg per
metre.
Fourteen
weeks positioning
The management were full of praise for the thorough way the procedure
had been prepared by the companies involved, stressing the symbolic
aspect of this first link-up. It will now
take fourteen weeks to complete the positioning of all of the cable
bundles.
Full details can be found at the Paradiski
website and in the special technical presentation on the Vanoise
Express.
