At the launch of their new 2003/04 Ski Brochure, Inghams Travel
reported mixed fortunes for the wintersports market over the last
year.
Figures down across entire ski market
AC Nielsen figures have suggested that the ski market overall decreased
by 13% on the previous year. In contrast to this negative trend
Inghams reported an increase in passenger numbers of 8% and an increase
in market share, which has ‘probably’ led to their becoming the
leading wintersports operator.
They predict a mixed outlook for the forthcoming winter season with
little growth, especially in Europe. The weakness of Sterling against
the Euro has led to an increase in prices of 2% to 5% in Europe
(excl. Bulgaria and Romania). North America holidays will decrease
by between 2% - 4%.
New ideas from Inghams
Changes for Inghams for 2003/04 include a new charter flight into
Sion from London Gatwick, reducing transfer times to Zermatt, Saas
Fee, Crans Montana, Verbier and Villars; ‘Single Savers’ for individual
holidaymakers, where single rooms or twins have no supplement to
pay; and an increase in capacity on their highly successful charters
to Calgary from London Gatwick and Manchester.
