HALFPIPE SHAPING MOVES UP ANOTHER NOTCH

22 May 2003

Cardrona halfpipe
All four of the half pipes in the Southern Hemisphere's largest pipe park will have the same transition for 2003. Cardrona Alpine Resort is using its Kassbohrer Super Pipe Magician to shape all the pipes to ensure ultimate riding conditions for boarders and skiers of all abilities.

Dylan ButtUsing the Super Pipe Magician on all the pipes allows for rapid shaping at the end of the day when the snow is soft and before it sets hard when the sun goes down. Having a gentler transition also makes it less intimidating for those just starting out.

Giant pipes
The internationally acclaimed Johnny will have the highest walls at between 6.5 metres and 7 metres with a length of over 130 metres and an angle of 16°. The Monster is aptly named with a massive 18° angle and 5 metre walls, it is also the narrowest and runs for 110 metres. The Rookie and the International both run at 14° but this season the walls of the International have been built up to 4.5 metres while the designated camp pipe, the Rookie, remains at 3.5 metres.

So when can I go?
Cardrona opens on 21 June and, snow allowing, the International will open at this time. The other pipes will follow as snow build up allows.
