USA Ski Sales 2002/03
Overall sales for the entire winter sports market increased by 4.1% in dollar terms according to the Industries America (SIA) Retail Audit.

Kids turning to skis
- Overall Alpine ski sales were up 4.3% to $206 million.
- Midfat skis (almost 50% of all skis) were up 5.4%
- Junior skis (the second largest class) were up 20.9%
- Twin tips were up 25.9%
- Carve skis were down 40.5%
- Skiboards were down 15.1%

Second year of decline for Snowboard sales
For the second consecutive year snowboard equipment sales sagged. Snowboards declined 6.5% in dollar terms to $83.1 million and 3.8% in units.

- Freeride/Freestyle boards were down 13.1%
- Freeride boards were down 1.4% (unit sales increased by 2.6%)
- Freestyle boards were down 7.6%
- All Mountain boards were down 29.7%
- Snowboard boots were down 2.4%
- Non step-in boots were up 9.7%
- Snowboard bindings were down by 4.4%

Accessories take off

These represented 74% of all units sold in an average ski/snowboard shop and 34% of dollars. This season equipment accessories were up 13.7% to $279.7 million.

- Goggles were up 42%
- Helmets were up 28%
- Hats up 38.8%
- Turtlenecks up 32.6%
- Gloves up 10.4%
- Mitts up 16.7%
- Socks up 15.9%
