THE ARCTIC CHALLENGE

26 March 2003

The Arctic Challenge from 7-13 April will see the World's best gather in the stunning new surroundings of Trysilfjellet, Norway, for one of the only events which is true to the roots of snowboarding and allows for ultimate freedom of expression and freeriding.

The Davidoff Cool Water Xpression Sessions will be a massive quarterpipe: 8 meters high and 25 meters wide. The riders attack the monster at 80 kph, flying up to 18 meters above ground level. At the last event Finnish rider Heikki Sorsa broke Ingemar Backman's historic world air record by stumping a solid 9.3m air.

The Arctic Challenge was established in 1999 as an alternative to rigid sports philosophy and organisation. Developed by an icon of snowboarding, Terje Haakonsen, The Arctic Challenge is dedicated to riders' control of their sport and the basic values of snowboarding: Playfulness, progression, freedom and individual style.

The event is the pinnacle of the Ticket To Ride (TTR) series, the newest and most innovative snowboarding tour (replacing the ISF). TTR comprises nine events of the best International events where riders must try and secure a golden 'ticket' to The Arctic Challenge.
