Most
of us (hopefully) already make an effort to minimize our impact
on the environment and the amount of Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
we produce.
You might do it by cycling
or walking sometimes instead of driving, by turning off the lights
when you leave the room, or by lowering the thermostat.
There are loads of ways
we can reduce
our emissions domestically, but what happens when we go on holiday?
Airline flights are one of the biggest causes of CO2
85% of British tourists on package holidays believe it is important
not to damage the environment, but very few of us do anything about
it, particularly in relation to flights - one of the major contributors
to global warming.
For
example a return flight from London Luton to Geneva will produce
0.28 tonnes of CO while one from Heathrow to Denver, Colorado produces
1.66 tonnes.
You can't (usually) walk or cycle to the snow, but the good news
is that we can now do something to 'neutralise' that bit of global
warming we cause.

Future
Forests is a UK company that recognises that to some degree
we all contribute to global warming - but also provides a way we
can slow it down through a process called CarbonNeutral.
You can make anything
and everything CarbonNeutral. Their
website shows you how you can calculate
your CO2 emissions, learn how to reduce
them, have trees planted to reabsorb
them and fund cleaner
energy to balance them out.
Celebrity Supporters
The
scheme has a large amount of celebrity support, including many bands
who have made their tours or CDs Carbon Neutral. Coldplay, Foo Fighters
and David Gray are all supporters.
You can make a difference
Natives is not here to lecture anyone, but we reckon that anyone
who loves the mountains and the outdoors must appreciate the environment.
So why not take a look at their website, and next time you travel
to the snow, see how much it would cost you to offset the emissions
your trip produces.
You can make a difference.
