LES GETS UPDATE

31 December 2001

"Soft snow under my edges rather than sheet ice..."

Greetings from snowy and at times sunny Les Gets. For those of you not familiar with this peach of a town it sits in the Portes du Soleil about an hour's drive from Geneva on the road to Morzine. And, as of earlier this week, we`ve got lots of fresh snow which has kicked most of the area off in
fine style.

After spending the summer in NZ I can`t tell you how pleasant it is to

a) not have to drive for an hour up the mountain before you can strap your board on and
b) feel soft snow under the edges rather than sheet ice.

Les Gets is no Val or Meribel in terms of size but it has certainly got a good vibe and it seems to have all the necessary ingredients for a season full of giggles, ie good bars, a nightclub that turfs out at 5 am and a whole bunch of Brits out here working and playing hard.

As someone who is new to town and not working as yet I`m a bit of a Billy No Mates but I have bumped into some of the Ski Famille crew who run a number of chalets out here and they have very graciously offered to show me the sights and sounds of Les Gets after dark - so please watch this space for details on what I discover or what discovers me!

If any season workers based in Les Gets want to swap resort gossip and stories or simply want to hit the slopes then just drop me a line.

That`s all for this first report, here`s wishing you all a great rest of season and a Happy New Year.
