ST ANTON UPDATE

11 February 2002

St Anton rarely stops...

Babes sunning themselves on the beach, swooning over boarders with tans. Lazy people stretched out on deckchairs, engrossed in the latest Jackie Collins, sipping long cocktails. Hawaii? The Maldives? Corfu? Nope. St Anton. Up until a few days ago that is. A phenomenal amount of sunshine fell onto the slopes of St Anton this last month. In fact ever since the Natives bash at Bar Cuba…hmm…did we scare the snow off?

Thankfully though, sunshine hasn't meant that our pistes disappeared. Conditions have remained good thanks to the base left down over the new year and plenty of good piste management at the beginning. All it's left us with is a bit of a spring snow feeling, icy mornings (not that we workers care) and slushy in the late noon. In other words still fine in the hours that I'm skiing.Conditions in Lech and Zurs remain good thanks to their height.

As for now. I'm writing this in the middle of a snowstorm, having had a first taste of powder on Thursday, even if I couldn't see much thanks to the low cloud…Roll on Monday :-)

Life here hit the usual mid January lull, but round here that counts for little. St Anton rarely stops, and you have to ask very politely to get off this party bus. All culminated in a rather stirling effort from Scottie's with their Heroes and Villains party, which brought out some great costumes. Where else can you find Eric the Red and superhero Robin WWF rucking in the street? Hilarious. Cream continues every fortnight in the Kandahar. And those tuck stopping at the Snack Attack will be confused by a new improved menu. BLT wraps, Kebabs and Bacon Burgers!

Half way through the season now and Fasching* is upon us, and for anyone that thought New Year was a big enough party, hold on to your hats, this is the big one. Bar Cuba will be holding its X-dress party, prizes etc for efforts…see you all there (this reporters costume is a closely guarded secret)…

Cheers all,

Alastair

*Fasching, or Karneval in Germany, is the period of festival running though the Winter to Shrove Tuesday, or Fasching Dienstag, during which numerous balls and parties are held and generally everyone gees themselves up! For Fasching Dienstag, many ski on costume, and the party goes on and on and on…
