After last season's success of the re-designed event, Burton Snowboards and Livigno are getting ready to host the Burton European Open 2003 freestyle event taking place January 18-25, 2003.

The Burton European Open 2003 will introduce open online registration for all disciplines this year. In the Halfpipe, 100 open spots are waiting for male riders; the best 24 riders of the pre-qualification will join the 24 invited riders. When it comes to the women, 8 riders will be invited and 40 spots are open.

Junior Jam, Slopestye places available
Slopestyle, designed with the involvement of Burton team rider Gigi Rüf will have 76 open places plus 24 invited riders. The third discipline, the so-called "Night Shoot-Out" will not be a Quarterpipe like last year, but consist of a progressive and totally new format never-before-created, to show the next level of competition. 76 open places plus 24 invited riders.

The Junior Jam, a Halfpipe event for boys (13yrs and under), and girls (15yrs and under), is on the programme again. The Junior Jam saw unbelievable riding at last year's event; these kids are truly the future of snowboarding. 50 spots for boys and 25 spots for girls are available, registration can be done online.

Knock out system on Halfpipe
Judging will be done by riders - stars from both the past and today - and lead by a Head Judge. Who better to recognize and confirm results than the riders themselves? All Top 12 spots in men´s discipline win cash prizes.

For Halfpipe, Overall Impression wins; In Slopestyle, Finals will run in jam session format; the "Night Shoot-Out" will run a knock-out system; 24 finalists ride one against the other, e.g. the 1st rider against the 24th.

Parties will include the MTV Winterjam on 24 January, a full-on party at the world's top snowboarding get-together. Expect a wild night with MTV Europe's signature mix of cutting-edge DJs, up-for-it crowds and spot-on music.
