Right. Where to start. There certainly have
been a fair few changes in town over the summer, some welcome, others
a little less so.
Bars that are no more
L'Aventure has indeed disappeared, I think Luc felt that it was
no longer financially viable, and MW have been after it for some
time, as there is a connecting door from the bar into the Hotel
Val d'Isere. However it is also their creche now and not just offices.
There was rumour that the restaurant section is still a restaurant,
but empty at the moment, so that space will have to be watched.
There were always problems with it regarding both the hotel and
the health centre next door, noise and damage, and people swimming
in the swimming pool etc, so it is no real surprise to anyone.
Magoos has also disappeared. This has always
been owned by the Borel's who also own the Warm Up Cafe. With the
residency above it there have been many problems with the noise,
and in view of the fact that the Warm Up has expanded downstairs
(more later) the decided to remove - so to speak - the competition
and are turning it into a restaurant (which it was before Crystal
took up the management).
Bars that have changed
Fats has indeed moved to the Petit Danois.
This is a very recent development, and one that has excited the
loyal fervour of most long time saisonnaires. Cafe Fats is still
being run under the brand name of Fats, but the big man himself
is now to be found offering all day brekkies, curry night, etc etc
at the Danois. Sky Sports and various events will be run out of
there and I think his entire faithful clientele is following. This
is important for all new staff who know of Cafe Fats from friends
etc.
Pacific Restaurant is now owned by Favre Sports
Group, and is opening under the brand name Precision. Clothing,
rentals, ski and board centres are all in the shop, and it will
be open later in December, ( 7th I think). The old sale shop is
now a boot fitting centre and the old rental shop a second rental
outlet. This (for punter interests) will mean a lot less restaurant
seats on wednesday nights, and most places are now advising that
you book in advance.
The bar we will miss most
The last bar change is the sad demise of the Passage a L'Acte, every
seasonnaires second living room. It will be sorely missed. Martin
is now working for the ESF and the Bar remains empty. RIP
In terms of bars that is about it. Pacific,
Danois, the Lodge are all open now. The Moris opens tomorrow night
with Club 21, and Dicks opens tonight. Watch out for a full report
in due course...
