IN a deal akin to selling sand to Arabs a South Wales firm has clinched a contract to built an artificial ski slope for the Russians.

Russian Alpine School commissions slope
Following a £170,000 contract won by Cardiff-based 345 Project Management, Chepstow-based Dendix International, is making a new ski slope for the Russian Alpine School in Moscow. Dendix, which also specialises in industrial brushes, has already built a number of ski slopes internationally, including two in Poland.

The ski slope will soon be transported in pieces by truck to Russia and is expected to be open to the public by the end of the year.

No Local Mountains
Phil Judd, director of 345 Project Management, said, "Skiing is very popular in Moscow. There are dozens of very small ski hills, because there are no sizeable hills or mountains in the vicinity of the Russian capital.

"However, the problem is the intensity which these smaller hills are used, which wears away the snow very rapidly.The Russian Alpine School had been looking for an artificial ski slope for some time and we are delighted they have turned to us to produce a new facility."
