CHEMMY'S TOP TWENTY RESULTS

12 November 2002

Loveland, Colorado, is again hosting the opening Nor-Am events of the winter season with a top quality field in attendance, in preparation for the World Cup Opening next weekend in Park City, Utah.

Chemmy has top results
Britain's Chemmy Alcott (20, Hove) opened her season with two top 20 results in Giant Slalom, scoring points which will half her current Giant Slalom ranking of 164 when the world ranking lists are revised.

Chemmy's programme has been boosted by her inclusion in the UK sport world Class Performance Programme for Alpine Skiing and the input of our new coach Gerhard Greber.

Austria Wins First Event
The opening event, held on 13/11/02 was won by one of the three Sölden victors, Nicole Hosp of Austria. After an extremely strong 1st run, Chemmy dropped back slightly in the 2nd, yet still achieved 17th place, just half a second off four times Olympic medal winner Kostelic, who finished in 8th.

On day two (14/11/02), Chemmy improved her overall position to finish 11th, with all but one of the girls ahead of her ranked in the top 80. Genevieve Simard of Canada was the race victor.

Hope for Carrick-Anderson
Britain's leading female slalom skier, Emma Carrick-Anderson failed to finish either day, but has been skiing well in training and looks forward to her first outing in her preferred discipline next week in park City.

Loveland takes a break from racing today (15th Nov), but the programme resumes on Saturday with the first of two men's slaloms. This race will feature Alain Baxter's first competitive race since the Olympic slalom and three further racers from the strong British Technical squad; Noel Baxter (21) Johnny Moulder-Brown (24) and Gareth Trayner, (22).
