Danger that marriage could seriously affect your board life
Almost twice as many single people (24%) than couples (12%) are
interested in snowboarding, indicating that if you want to meet
someone special you should grab a board and head for the slopes,
according to a survey by teletextholidays.co.uk reveals that single
people are more likely to take up snow boarding than their married
counterparts. Furthermore, a staggering 25% of all the respondents
who have ever been skiing or snowboarding are single!
Half interviewed interested in wintersports
A sizeable 19% of people have been skiing/snowboarding at some point
in their lives which points to an overall increase in the number
of UK adults taking a ski or snowboarding holiday. The figures also
reveal an enormous potential market of would-be skiers with an astonishing
53% of all respondents, who had not been on a winter sport holiday
before, showing an interest in taking up either skiing or snowboarding.
40% opted for skiing whilst 13% would try snowboarding.
Original boarders still on the slopes
Vicky Smith, spokesperson for teletextholidays.co.uk said: “Now
it seems there are additional incentives to go skiing and snowboarding.
It also shows how the appeal of snow sports is broadening with the
percentage of UK adults who have ever tried it on the increase.”
The image of snowboarding as a youth only pastime is also disappearing
as the original generation of pioneering ‘boarders’
reach their thirties and forties. 20% of 25-34 year olds and 15%
of 35-44 year olds had shown an interest in snowboarding.
This new research heralds the start of the ski season
and the launch of one of the The Daily Mail Ski and Snowboard Show.
Seal, the multi-million album-selling vocalist, and a talented boarder
opened the show on the 25th October 2002 at Olympia, London. The
survey was conducted over 22 - 24 October 2002 by Taylor Nelson
