Good spring conditions from top to bottom
Early last week saw a pile of new snow arrive and freshen up the
mountain. Between 30-50cm provided excellent powder skiing over
the entire mountain and amazed the international competitors here
for the Vodafone Junior World's. Lots of comparisons to Colorado
powder - all good news for New Zealand as a destination. Over the
weekend the warmer weather has changed the snow to spring conditions.
Firm overnight and softening gradually from first thing.
On-piste has been well packed and is
only softening about 5-6cm so the skiing has been good top to bottom
all day. Currently all main trails are being groomed daily with
100% coverage over the entire mountain. Looking great for the upcoming
school holidays with an average base of between 55-160cm.
Pipe & Park News
All four pipes will be operating on rotation daily. Park is opening
daily weather and visibility permitting and riding well top to bottom.
The Kid's Park on Skyline is in great shape - adults please duck
when using the tunnel run.
Events News
The Vodafone Snowboard Nations Junior
World Championships are over and congratulations to all the
NZ team who provided a very competitive presence taking away several
medals and ranking third behind the USA and Australia. The Dynastar
ski masters saw Bonny Teat, Walter Unterberger and Perry Coulter
walk away with the silverware out of 130 racers in fantastic winter
conditions.
Looking ahead to the weekend we have
the infamous Drambuie Snowboard Masters followed by the Casio G-Shock
Grommets and Sunday the 22nd Coca Cola presents the Suzy Cato Family
Fun Day.
That's it for this week. Hope you all
have a chance to get close to the snow before closing date which
is less than 3 weeks away now on the 6th of October. Keep up to
date with the web cam.
