THEATRE BUFFS CZECH OUT NUDE SKI PROMOTION

16 September 2002

Five actors stripped down to their skis and performed in a Plzen public square on Thursday to promote a theatre festival in the Czech Republic.

Nude troupe performs in front of Cathedral
Standing naked in the sun on Namesti Republiky, not far from St Bartholomew's Cathedral, actors with the White Theatre of Ostrava troupe performed takes from the all-nude Czech comedy "You Who Ski".

The show drew wild cheers from a mostly female audience, as well as subdued glances from some spectators in a cathedral rectory window.

All in the name of art...
The play is a commentary on life's absurdity and features naked men posing in various skiing positions, imitating figures in the drawings of avant garde Czech artist Martin Velisek.

If you fancy checking the play out in person, it's on the bill for the International Theatre Festival 2002, which opened on Thursday and runs through to Tuesday in Plzen.
