CARDRONA SNOW UPDATE

29 August 2002

Blizzard conditions through Sunday/Monday have deposited a lot of wind drifted snow on the East facing slopes, filling the faces, gullies, Captains and lower Arcadia. Some of the best skiing and riding conditions for the season with dry winter pack on the main trails, soft and easily skied. Looks like this will continue well into September.

Off piste we have an equal mix of wind blasted snow, hard in places and soft wind deposited powder, dry and chalky. Temperatures around -3C have kept snow quality. Currently 99% coverage off piste, 100% of trails open and being groomed daily with an average base of between 55-158cm.

Pipe & Park News
Three pipes operating on rotation with the Johnny Superpipe closed for a rebuild for the Vodafone Junior Worlds. Park is opening daily weather and visibility permitting and riding well top to bottom. The Gravity cross course is absolutely huge as it nears full size for the world juniors. The Kid's Park on Skyline is in great shape - adults please duck when using the tunnel run.

Looking ahead to the conclusion of the NZ University Winter Games tomorrow, NZ Freeskiing champs over the weekend and the Cardrona FIS series early next week.

Hope you all have a chance to get close to the snow over the next few weeks. Keep up to date with the web cam
