CARDRONA SNOW UPDATE

22 August 2002

Dry new snow and winds over last weekend have created a mixed bag of snow conditions over the mountain. On the main trails the snow is dry winter pack, soft and easily skied. A real ego booster!

Off piste we have an equal mix of wind blasted snow, hard in places and soft wind deposited powder, dry and chalky. Temperatures around -3C have helped the snow improve. Currently 99% coverage off piste, 100% of trails open and being groomed daily with an average base of between 55-125cm.

Pipe & Park News: The International will be reopened with a Superpipe transition Saturday meaning all 4 pipes now are using the large radius shaper. Early next week the Johnny Superpipe will be closed for a rebuild for the Vodafone Junior Worlds. Park is opening daily weather and visibility permitting and riding well top to bottom. The Kid's Park on Skyline is in great shape - Adults please duck when using the tunnel run.

Looking ahead to the Southern District ski champs this weekend, The Mo-Dean halfpipe challenge Monday and the NZ University winter games start next Tuesday..

That's it for this week. Hope you all have a chance to get close to the snow over the next few weeks. Keep up to date with the web cam
