BUSC ALPINES TO LDA

19 August 2002

BUSC, the British Universities Snowsports Council, has officially confirmed that Les Deux Alpes will be the venue for next year's Alpine Championships.

The news had been widely anticipated (not least in the Natives Chat Room) and has been welcomed as great news for this year's students.

Although the recent successful Summer Camp was held there, this will be the first time that the Alpine Championships has gone to Deux Alpes, with Tarentaise favourites Les Arcs, Tignes and La Plagne previous venues. However, the guaranteed snow on the glacier and fired up nightlife means the resort offers everything BUSC will need to keep the 2000+ students entertained.

Dan Craig from BUSC told Natives"BUSC has grown up a lot in the past few years and is now capable of providing a first class events service - together with our partners and sponsors, we're all looking forward to a fantastic season."

With four confirmed events and more in the pipeline, this is BUSC's most ambitious season so far - over 4000 students are expected to participate at one or more events.

The season begins with the largest dryslope competition in the UK - BUDS - which will take place on 8/9 November in Edinburgh and includes a pro-am invitational big air and slopestyle competition alongside the traditional GS, SL and dual slalom races for skiers and boarders. The prize giving party for over 1500 people will take place at Edinburgh's Corn Exchange and will feature some of the best new talent from Scotland and beyond.

In the week before Christmas, the traditional 'Third Event' will take around 800 people to Tignes. The week will include freestyle and freeride training, instruction courses, plus a flying visit from the Matchstick and Standard film tour.

After a weekend in Aviemore on the 1st and 2nd of February, the season will culminate with the BUSC championships in Les Deux Alpes, France.
