After two lay-days due to poor weather and strong winds, Mount Hotham (Victoria) provided beautiful sunshine and excellent snow conditions for the LIFE SAVERS Half Pipe, which determined the overall champions for the 2002 Rip Curl Freeski Pro. Leaving his best until last, Spence performed a series of aerial 540-degree spins and a massive slide on the pipe’s metal rail to score the day’s highest score – eight, out of a possible 10 points. Commenting on his final run, Spence said, "I tried to go big and smooth and payed off. I’ve never landed any bigger spins than a 540. I’m stoked, it was a great day."
Zoe Booth (Perisher, NSW) attacked the LIFE SAVERS Half Pipe throughout the women’s elimination rounds and final to score an emotional win ahead of Falls Creek skier Amy Gavin. Booth was locked in the lead with Tomo Kajima (Japan) heading into the final discipline and today’s win in the Half Pipe gave the 17-year-old Perisher skier the overall Rip Curl Freeski Pro title. "I took the first run a little cautious, just did a tail grab and a few alley-oops. For my second run (in the final) I went bigger", said Booth after claiming her second discipline win and the overall Rip Curl Freeski Pro Title.
