CARDRONA ENJOYS A SOLID WEEK OF SUN

1 August 2002

Nothing but sun all this last week. Temperatures have been cold overnight keeping the snow in winter condition. The skiing first thing on the grooming has been fantastic, really dry silky snow. So snow wise no change - good winter snow conditions over the entire mountain. The two quad chairs being higher have some great snow, lower on double has a few patches of hard pack which tend to show later in the day.

Currently 95% coverage with all main runs being groomed daily with an average packed base of between 35-80cm. Managed to get on the boards again yesterday and can report snow is in good condition and feedback from visitors really positive and favourable about Cardrona snow.

The Learners slopes at 1670m are keeping really good snow. Public feedback from beginners is fantastic, 3 Magic Learner lifts don't hurt either!

Boarders are absolutely stoked on the pipes and park, so what's changed? New feature in today is the Majestic rail - absolutely huge. The Volkl Vertical Hoon (Zoom) was an amazing event and congratulations to young Nick Kingston who took out the $1000 first prize.

Looking ahead Telemarkers get their chance to play on Saturday. Monday the Cheapskates Otago/Southland High school snowboard champs hit the slopes and Tuesday it's heating up as we hit the second round of the BASE Ultra cross. 20 teams started last week and competition is getting serious as everyone lines up on the $2000 cash from Natures Energy. There are a few spots available if anyone wants to put a late team in.

That's it for this week. Hope you all have a chance to get close to the snow over the next few weeks. Keep up to date with the web cam.
